Quilts are quilts and Rugs are Rugs.

I'm not picking on Debbie but the quote above was so funny and so..classic. I was telling our group about some of the interesting and different things I saw while in Pittsburgh/Spring Market. So tell me dear bloggers what do you think about the possibility of using a quilt as a rug? Obviously, it would have to be in a low traffic area. Interesting huh? The verdict is still out for me. I will have to let this one percolate for awhile. Here are a couple of pictures for you to see. Tell me please if this is a trend and I'll get busy designing quiltugs..whatever!
I'm teaching an advanced machine applique class at Sweet Home (Melissa) tomorrow. I can't wait! We will be doing the Whig Rose wall hanging that I showed you a couple of months ago. A pattern by Kim Diehl from her book "Simple Blessings". For the past several years I have been doing machine applique' using Heat n Bond Lite and sewing the donut method or window pane method. This method has several names. But I have converted to the method of using freezer paper and having a turned under, clean finished edge and cutting away the backing so the piece is lighter and softer in feel. I think this method really gives the look that is closest to hand needle turned. I will be teaching my group both methods tomorrow so they have options... Can you tell I love to be in a classroom?

I asked the Mary Beth what she wanted for dinner tonight (this would be my first mistake). "Fresh green beans, MASHED POTATOES, salad , iced tea (well duh we have sweet tea at every meal), I don't care what kind of meat but how about some chicken on the grill or it would be ok if it is just baked " (she cut me some slack) was her answer! "What no homemade rolls?" I said... second mistake..."yeah rolls". Next time I'm not asking, I'm ordering a pizza and going to my sewing room.

No, Quiltrugs at my house. I can't even use tablerunners. Too many boys! Have fun tomorrow! Love the Whig Rose Wallhanging. It's on my future projects list. Take care
The quilt rugs are cute, but my dog will pick it up and drag it in his mouth thinking it is his new quilt. LOL
The advanced applique class sounds like a lot of fun...I am the worst "appliquer".
I've been wondering about those quilt rugs I've seen in Market pics...did anyone actually step on them...I don't think I could!
No fancy Quiltrugs at this house - and only Friday night pizza for dinner!!! and i still LOVE the Whig Rose design!! love, deb
p.s. i guess i must be more careful with the insightful comments that i make in public :)
Don't think I'd want to use my quilts on the floor! They look really nice, but it would break my heart to see my quilts being stepped all over.
That's my favorite method of applique!
Quiltrugs are out except with a baby playing on them (also known as quilt on the floor for baby to play on). And I have a new found respect for Debbie. Never knew what a profound speaker she was!!! Ann W.
I make hooked rugs and I know some people use wool pennies as rugs, but not quilts? I guess if you don't have pets and walk barefoot, it would be ok;)
Debbie
No quiltrugs for me either! I can just imagine a muddy foot print! ~shudder~ ;-) I love the Kim Diehl patterns! Have fun teaching!
As for dinner~ pizza here too. ;-)
OH, NO.......no stepping on quilts in THIS house!!! So I guess that translates into NO quilts as rugs!!! And....silly YOU for asking what the daughter wanted for dinner. I'm glad to see you've learned your lesson about that. :)
I have to say today's class with Pat was FANTASTIC. Pat you are extremely talented and your teaching style is very nice. I could take classes from you anytime! I thoroughly enjoyed myself today and the time flew by. Your BLOG is excellent. You are a lady of many talents.
1,2,3,4, hump . . . . have fun with machine applique! Melissa was too funny today. I am glad she was finally able to catch her breath. A great day in our class today!
Okay, now I want my name entered into the "fish bowl" for the drawing tomorrow!!! I don't know Quilt Boy, but I am sure he will do a good job with the drawing.
I am looking forward to being notified that I am a winner!
Enjoy the evening, Pat Robinson
It would be hard to step on a rug quilt....I did buy some burlap to make a few mats for the floor (quilted). I also while traveling took pictures of tiles that would make great rugs. I would love to take your applique class...I want so bad to learn how to do it better.
