There are voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter the world.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I need a day of quiet, solitude, sewing in my studio listening to the silence. Do you ever feel that way. So busy that you long for solitude? Yup that is me today. I've been on the run for a week and out of the house at every turn. ( Actually having way too much fun ) I had so much fun "lunching" with girlfriends laughing and catching up with old friends. But...this leads to NO SEWING....NO DESIGNING....YIKEESS. I'm not the kind of person that "does lunch", but last week I was and now....I miss the solitude of my sewing room. I think this is basically the dilemma of a person who at the heart of it all HOME BODY.

On Thursday I went to the north Georgia mountains on a search for a retreat site for my Silver Thimble Club. I took Suzanne and Cathy along and we had fun exploring. I found an idyllic place for a sewing retreat. I'm working on the details and costs with more research to come. I'm hoping to make an announcement about this next Silver Thimble venture by the start of the Stitch In next Monday... stay tuned!! We would love to have you join us on Quilt Retreat in February.

While "lunching" in the Mountains we went to a famous barbecue place in Ellijay. They have a hill in the back of the restaurant with crosses marking the passing of the pigs that have given it up for the sake of the honored pork plate. I can't decide if this is hilarious or creepy. The photo shows the hill (ok could be a better picture). Those little specks are crosses with each little piggy's name. Then when on the porch in the rafters are pig cut outs with more piggy names. I'm sure my name is going to end up on one of those little piggy's some day. OH MY!

The Stitch In begins one week from today and I have 3 weeks worth of work to do between now and then. We really "rock the house" during this week. I'll be posting with photos from the scene of the crime oops EVENT. During the last Stitch In over 80 quilts were completed. Talk about eye candy!

I just re-read my post. I'M NEVER EATING BBQ AGAIN......I DO THINK THE GRAVE MARKERS ARE CREEPY.

Check out this great give away! I'm going to win.

LOL, I'm guilty of eating Sally's offspring but I was told by the 10yo boy who owned her that it was ok because he never names Sally's babies.

I know the solution. Just don't ever eat there again :) Hard to live in the South and not eat pork.

Yes, I totally understand about needing to be home and needing some solitude. I think it's what keeps us grounded.

Exciting news about the retreat place. Thanks for working so hard for us!

Hum, it never does to name the food providers. But someone has a real bizarre sense of humor!

No one else will have an opportunity to win that drawing cause your link didn't link. Really clever! Laughing, honest, I am laughing a lot.

Your retreat sounds fun. Too far away to go. Oh well...

Sounds like you will have a great retreat! I'm a homebody too~ my sewing machine misses me if I'm gone for too long. ;-)

Hi Pat, I found your blog through your post on our group blog. Your blog is hilarious and I will follow it now! It is such fun to get to know all the creative quilters out there but the list of blogs I follow is getting so long! And BTW, it is STINKIN HOT here in Texas for sure! :-)

This really caught my attention. First of all you had me laughing with the little pig crosses... we raised pigs when I was little. I always got too attatched to the little pigs. When it was time for slaughter, my parents would do this while I was in school. Coming home, seeing all the kin folk there, fresh pig meat in the kitchen,....my heart would start beating. They would all tell me that they traded my pig for a pig down the road. I fell for this every year until I got older and wiser and able to accept the facts of "real life " on a farm. On solitude...yes! I think we all feel that way. I lived in town for 20 years in a scary loud neighborhood until I finally convinced my husband about country living. "the Green Acres" episode in real life. Now that we are here.....30 miles from anyone in any direction, my life is full of solitude and peace. One reason I started blogging to get in human contact once in a while. I get together with friends once in a while and it is a fun time...they really like to come out here a lot. I have always had the dream of having a stitching retreat, because of my hand embroidery work, offereing quilting and crocheting as well. I have a lot of people always interested in learning how. We certainly have the acreage. If I had the funds to set up cabins for each one to stay in...I would love to do this kind of thing for my life's work. When I read about someone going to a retreat, I always want to hear about how it looked, how the classes went...or what one did. I hope you let us know how your experience was! Enjoyed visiting. blessings,Kathleen

Hi Pat, I hope you are enjoyed your day of sewing and may it keep going. I'm kinda of a home body myself.
The pig cemetary, makes you realize what your eating, but bar-b-que pork is soooo gooood.
Can't wait to hear about your retreat. We will be going to Atlanta GA sometime in Oct to get to Virginia for our vacation.
Keep Stitchen'

Yes, it is a bit creepy but I am not giving up pulled pork sandwiches no matter what! Add coleslaw and sweet tea and you have one of the best meals in the South!

Here is a humor/groan for you....
A blonde was weed-eating her yard and accidentally cut off the tail of her cat which was hiding in the grass.
She rushed her cat, along with the tail, over to WAL-MART!
Why WAL-MART??
HELLOOOOOOOOO!
hWALMART is the largest re-tailer in the world!!!
