Abdicate: v, To give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach
-play on words from Washington Post
It's not good. I'm in the middle of sewing room Armageddon. Nobody will go upstairs. I took everything out of the sewing room (well almost everything) and I'm throwing out and redoooooing the whole place. I'm removing all things plastic. Why? Well I'll tell the secret if you promise not to tell anyone or promise not to laugh. I HATE ALL THINGS PLASTIC. Rubbermaid, Tupperware, cutlery...especially cutlery..boxes, drawers, food containers the list is endless. I KNOW this is a problem but we all have our little " things" right? My disdain for plastic is legendary..kinda. I think I stepped on one to many legos when my kids were little or had to squeeze myself into their Little Tykes playhouse too much...Anyway I just hate all things plastic with one exception I do like my Tervis Tumbler. You are just going to have to accept me as I am. So, a year or so ago I went temporarily insane and bought all these plastic drawers...now they are TOAST I could not live with myself. I'm working through this you will see.

| I threw all this junk on the bed in the guest room. | | | |

| oh LORD I APOLOGIZE! |

| Plastic..drawers...TOAST | | | |

| Lets just call it for what it is. CRAP EVERYWHERE. |

| And then there is this 15 bags o' Scraps.I'm so ashamed! Going back in.I will leave a trail of bread crumbs please don't forget me. | | | | | | |

Pat leave a path of scraps and w'll definitely find you, with a lot of enthusiasm. LOL I thought I had a lot of scraps, but I think that beats me. Wishing you luck on the remodel.
Set an alarm Pat. We won't forget you!
Dear Lord girl! 15 bags o' scraps! I'd be in shear heaven!
Sending you well wishes and many hugs as you venture into the "cleaning of the sewing room". That is a chore in itself.... I know!
15 bags of scraps!!! Deary me! I am with the others, that isn't a disaster, it's a treasure trove! Good luck with your reorganizing!
Oh, I love, love, LOVE the idea of everything OUT of the sewing room..... where did you put the stuff......you have me thinking and about the only place I could put the stuff is in the second bathroom.............. what you have not said is how many bookshelfs you are putting in the sewing room to "use" for storage....
We won't forget.... we want to SEE this new space !!!
Oh, my...what a HUGE project!!! Remember....you need to be done for Wednesday, February 2....because we're doing lunch then...right???? :)
too funny....
I will have to eat my way in....make sure it is fresh bread.
Go Pat! But how do you end up with 15 bags of scraps?? Holy cow! LOL
ROTFLMAO!!!!!! I'm just waiting for a quilter to show up on that TV sseries "Hoarders".....
I'll bet Bonnie Hunter (http://quiltville.blogspot.com/) would take those scraps.
Goodness!! I'm curious on how you ended up with 15 bag of scraps too, I believe that is a record in the quilt world....congratulations....I think LOL.
Crispy
Pat, I am jealous, I have two huge and I do mean huge rooms upstairs, one holds most of my sewing supplies and my long arm> (thanks to my daughters for moving out when they did I was sick of sewing in the basement) I don't know what happens but when I am creating what a mess. I started cleaning out my plastic bins (they were all solid colors you can see whats in them) shortly after Thanksgiving then came Christmas, New Years and then back to work, today I am home with a sore back and can't climb the stairs to work on finishing!:( want to come help me when you are thru with yours?????
good luck Pat! I just moved to the basement so my kids could each have their own rooom. Let's just say there's still about 20% of junk left in my son's room just sitting on the floor. I don't know how long it will be there but he's not complaining :) so I don't have any immediate plans to move it. I wouldn't be surprised if the pile is still there in May!
Whoa! Good luck digging out! I am at the tail end of doing the very same thing to my sewing studio, now I only have a pile of stuff on my cutting table to decide what to do with. It is a great feeling, keep at it!
Okay, I know you are busy with cleaning and redecorating, but I have one small question. In the "crap everywhere" picture there is a basket in the back on the left. Is that "commercially made" or was that crafted by a real basketmaker. I ask because it is a pattern I've been searching for. Thanks and good luck!
Bread crumbs? What happened to the yellow crumbs?? Something is not right here. We will send in rescuers if necessary. When you come up for air, give us an update.
15 bags of scraps!? Oh, my gosh. My two little boxes pale in comparison. :) I hope that you are seeing light at the end of your decluttering tunnel.
Good for you Pat! I wish I could do that. I just keep wading thru it all!
WOW! 15 Bags of scraps, I think you will be in the world record book, LOL!!
Thats alot of scraps Pat- I can tell you have a plan and are a girl on a mission. I am sure it is going to be beautiful when you are finished.
I will look forward to your unveiling of the revamped space.
Warmest regards,
Anna
You're a brave woman. Be safe in there!
Bring the plastic storage you hate to Thimbles-- love to take it off you hands!
Don't get lost in all of those scraps.
Let's start at the top ~ love the word. Too funny.
The plastic thing ~ I knew there was a reason I liked you! I used plastic bins for storage for years because it was the only option. But as soon as I had a chance to re-organize, out it went.
I would help you if I could but you know what that would mean... half of what you threw out would wind up going home with me. We're all hoarders at heart when it comes to fabric. I don't know if I had 15 bags worth, but I gave my "scraps" to a local guild group that makes charity quilt.
The best part about getting re-organized and cleaned out is that now you'll be motivated to take a little bit of time each day or week to maintain your beautiful new space. I didn't think I would ever get into doing that but much to my chagrin, I do!
Have fun and send up smoke signals if you need rescuing. :)
Honestly Pat, I wish I lived closer. I love plastic. (Plastic is the future... from The Graduate... or some such quote.) I store my projects in plastic. I store my paper supplies in plastic. I like plastic ziplock bags. I don't store finished projects in plastic though.
15 bags of scraps are treasure. Think of all the scrap quilts you can make...
Keep at it. It'll be better soon.
Ok, you and 2 1/2 days of being snowed in have inspired me. I'm going in to try to find some order in my sewing room. I bet I have a bigger mess than you do!
Last year we moved to a smaller house at the beach and in 3 seperate yard sales I sold ELEVEN 18 gallon totes of scrapes and yardage and pretty much anything else I hadn't touched in years. Also 4 sewing machines. It was liberating but I sure miss some of it :) I'm in the process of setting up my sewing space in an unused dining alcove, just need my son to build me some storage, so right now I have a huge mess that I try to sew in!! Good luck Pat!
I want your plastic--I am about to buy some--in an apartment,it is the best-cheapest way to storage stuff. Scraps--do what I do- take very light weight fusible interfacing and just grab a piece of scrap and fuse it keep going and soon you will have "fabric". then I take all my old "scraps" of thread (yea, I keep thread), sprinkle in on the "fabric" place tuelle over it and have fun stitching all over the "fabric"--NOW you can make something and have more scraps and repeat---
I just cleaned out my sewing area last weekend! I threw out all my plastic thingymajigs too! They were just too flimsy. I share a room with my hubby. Half of the room was his office and the other half was my sewing area. Now we are redoing it to be a media room/sewing area. I am gonna visit yard sales to look for old dressers I can fix up. I love change, it's so liberating!
I love my plastic shoe boxes! If you buy good ones (not from the dollar store) they aren't flimsey, stack wonderfully and hold all that little stuff, needles, grommets, toggles, extra thread, zippers and all that other stuff we can't sew without. I label all mine with painters tape and a black sharpie so I can always find what I need. BIG labels :)
I packed my kitchen in the empty fabric totes and after we moved had a Yard Sale and sold them for almost what I paid for them.
You can use those scraps for small projects, mixed media!
Smiles, Cyndi
