Always remember you are unique just like everyone else! - unknown
I hope everyone had a smashing good time this weekend. I know I did! This was Thimbles weekend and there was fun and laughter and quilting. What can be better than that?
I want to show you this quilt which is in MY BOOK.. The name of the quilt is French Silk, so named after one of my favorite pies. (no I will not name a quilt cheetos that would be just wrong on sooo many levels.) This quilt is super simple to construct. The most amazing thing about THIS QUILT is that it is made from a combination of cotton fabrics and SILK. ok so don't pass out and knock your head on the floor...and don't tell me I'm crazy. This quilt was so much fun, when together like BUHHTAH and is so lovely the way the light catches the silk after it was quilted. Quilted not by me, but by Leisa Wiggley longarm artist superior! and I dooo mean ARTIST.
I'm showing you the photo that is in the book because it also shows you the Elegant Bolster Pillow that is also in the book. I think this photo is great. Here is the funny thing. I named the bolster pillow "Tootsie Roll", but for obvious reasons I had to change the name, or get a legal team I guess. I swear I could NOT come up with anything. So Elegant Bolster Pillow it was. The creativity of that name knows no limits.
Here is the 411 on working with silk. I used dupioni. I like that name. dupioni, dupioni, dupioni, it sounds really up town don't you think?? The down side to silk is that it doesn't ravel.... it falls off in chunks so I used a stabilizer which was just the ticket. The solid brown parts of the quilt were the silk units the other two fabrics were regular cotton quilting fabric. Nice huh? This pattern design is screaming for any print that you would want to use as a focus..you could really highlight some fabulous fabric with this design. just sayin!

Here come dah prizes. Put a comment on this here bloggie and tell me your favorite genre or look for your quilts. If you comment you will win a chance to snag the autographed copy of my book.of course.
And this book.. Holey Cow those people at Martingale are all quilters.. I loved them before and now that I know they are ALLL QUILTERS I love them even more. I wonder if they are all sitting around in staff meetings whipping down binding and comparing each others 1/4" seams. Is it a prerequisite to getting a job there? Do you submit a quilt along with your resume. dang! They wrote this book and I want to keep it but ... it will go to some lucky winner..A Bakers Dozen written by the staff of That Patchwork Place.
And for the bonus extra prize...I love these little babies. I'm a cliping fool with these Wonder Clips. Great for sewing on binding (I'm a hand binding lovah myself) You are going to win the giant box and there are 50 in the box! whooo hoooo. That is two books and a box!
BTW this photo is sideways and I don't know why!
Comments! I love the comments it is such good reading. And a welcome break to marathon sewing which is going on at Silver Thimble World Headquarters.

I began making quilts that included redwork blocks. But now I'm making more traditional quilts with reproduction fabrics, I've made a few dolls quilts (just to hone my skills) Next will be one for my bed, perhaps with one of your patterns if I'm lucky enough to win
;- )
I like to make quilts in bright vivid colors, often scrappy. And I love piecing the blocks far more than I love to do applique. (Although I do love seeing appliqued quilts.)
My favorite is hand applique....very forgiving.
French Silk is beautiful! I'm normally a scrappy girl, but right now I'm working on a stack and whack quilt with two layer cakes I bought a while back. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of your book! :0)
I'm definitely a scrappy-quilt gal and also a piecing gal. I just cannot master applique without a lot of torture!!! Like Gene, though, I do love seeing applique on quilts. I also seem to do a lot more small projects (wall hangings and table runners) than I do large quilts....even though I LOVE large quilts. And....for whatever it is worth, I see nothing wrong with naming a quilt Cheetos...oh, wait......there would be a copyright problem with that just like there would be with Tootsie Roll. Hmmm.....maybe, instead, you could call it "Sticky Orange Fingers"!!! (That, of course, is for those who eat Cheetos without using a picker!!!)
I'm not sure what kind of a quilter I am... I love the modern... I love the traditional... I love the reproduction prints... I'm just happy that I can now call myself a quilter!!! I love your quilts! I never thought about using silk.... How does that wash up??
I'd love to win your book!!

I like muted colors and neutrals in traditional blocks. I adore stars! Happy quilting.
I can't nail down a particular style for my quilts because I love them all - traditional, brights, all the repros, orientals and so many more. I have some pieces of silk in my stash and I may be motivated to try using them now.
Well, I am a new quilter, and I love to keep it simple. So far I have done hexagons by hand. I do have a machine to try out some other piecing, but havn't yet. I do love simple colors, and havn't done scrappy yet. Matchy is my thing with colors. One day I will have to step outside my box and try something new.
Your quilt is gorgeous. I don't really have a particular favorite. I love almost ever fabric, that's the problem. Lately I've been enjoying batiks.
The genre depends on my mood and the season. I do everything from reproductions (30s), Kaffe Fassett fabrics, recycled shirts (ala Bonnie K Hunter), homespun, jelly roll quilts... I'm game for anything, depending on my mood. I tend to make bright quilts in the winter, I guess trying to bring sunshine into the cold.
I really cant pin it down, what I luke the best. I think all quilters go through changes. Right now it is Civil War for me. But it will be something else if another fabric catches my eye.
I like making pieced quilts with strong geometric patterns, using subtle fabrics like your neutrals and also quilts that are made with colors. One day - will learn applique. Thanks for the giveaway. Your quilt is so elegant, as is that elegant bolster.
Isn't it great to know that the folks who published your book are really Quilters too!!! I mean, they know stuff :-) Never have worked with silk. Velvet once, and no thank you anymore...... But your quilts are beautiful. You did an amazing job!
Hi from France
I like all sorts of quilts but inthat moment I 'm in love with taupe japanese fabrics and civil war fabrics used with traditional patterns and hand quilted
I am a fairly new quilter so I am not sure what my style is. Although, all the quilts I have made so far (4) have all been scrappy. I want to try Applique and I am taking a class this fall. Kind of scary.
I love your quilt with silk in it. how beautiful.
Thanks for the fantastic giveaway.

LIKE TO DO PATCHWORK QUILTS!
LOG CABIN IS A FAVORITE BLOCK!
THANKS SO FOR SHARING!
jldouglas@wispwest.net
I love happy colorful quilts mostly, but for my bed I like neutrals.
Thanks for a lovely giveaway. I haven't been quilting long but love it. I would like to make a sampler quilt for our bed some day. Linda
Thanks for the great giveaway. Would love to add those 2 books to my library.
I make quilts I call "draggers"because they are mostly baby and little kid quilts that they are going to 'drag" around. I try to use lots of brights as kids love them.
Be still my heart! I LOVE that quilt and pillow! Oh and how cool is it with the silk! I love it! My "genre" is earth tones and more traditional blocks. Which must by why I have loved all your quilts so far!
Another great pattern, and I love it in brown. I am curious as to how this one can be cleaned when the time comes. Will you have to dry clean it?
My favorite quilts are scrappy, and warm-looking. The kind you want to stare at for a while, and then curl up with!
I love traditional quilts, reproduction fabrics and applique. Right now I'm favoring wool applique. Thanks for the giveaway!
I love any quilt! (I'm easy to please!)
I make all different kinds of quilts. I can't decide on 1 style. Can you imagine me in a quilt shop? Frightening. I am planning a neutral quilt project that my friend is designing. I think your book could keep me on track! And I just started using those clips...love them. Happy stitching!
My fabric quilts are scrappy. I do anything goes together when I make them. I also like to make bright kids quilts.
Don't I just love a hand applique, folk art beauty? I'm a traditional quilter and my first was all neutrals. Story goes with that one....
Oh my...silk??? But it's just gorgeous. I might have to give it a try one day!
what a beautiful quilt! I have never made a quilt before so i am not sure what my fav would be. I did sign up for a learn to quilt class and we are making a log cabin quilt...so i will go with that for now..lol
Right now, I'm exploring modern quilts. I like the fresh colors and upbeat feel. Hope I win the neutrals book!
Silk, hmmm I will have to give that fabric a try! I like purples, blues, and yellows so any quilt kit in those colors always catch my eye first. I love the book and it was great seeing you and being back with all the Thimbles this weekend! :)
I love the combination of fabrics ... like new and old all in one! I also love that you could show off a beautiful large print in this quilt. Also ... first time reading your blog and I think your brain and my brain are from the same mold. Felt like I was reading something I would write! Oh my!
Can I win, can I, please?!?
I love bright, scrappy quilts, and I'm a goner for quilts with names that sound like something yummy to eat! :) Thanks for the giveaway!
What a beautiful quilt. I have never considered cotton and silk ... I like it!!!
I love to take "unusual" fabrics and make a traditional quilt with it. It's always fun to see the end result.
Ricci
I like scrappy quilts and patterns with lots of pieces!
I need this book I love neutral quilts. Love Love Love them. Please Please pick me.
Becky
My favorites are stars, or half square triangle variations.
The clips look like a great idea. I haven't found a solution I like yet, those could be a great notion
You're right about Martingale. They are all quilters. Many of them are in my guild, and they are all fantastic. I love their books--I want to own every one!
Asking me my favorite genre is like asking a kid in a candy shop what their favorite candy is. They would probably say "all of it." Right now I am working with black and white prints. I hurt my foot pretty badly two days ago so I can't sew for awhile (everything is in the basement). It's almost torturous--not being able to quilt!
Is "fast, fun, and easy" a genre? That's my favorite--and I generally make them scrappy if I have time. If time is short, I use fewer fabrics, and tend towards eye popping bright for kids, or cool colors for bigger quilts.
I am working on a batik quilt now with purples, blues, fuschia, aqua.
I think what ever I am working on is my favorite. Always like to see the projects in books for inspitation. Your giveaway is a
quilter's dream!!
I like to make quilts with lots of bright colors. Since I'm still pretty much a newbie, I get ideas from other people and my next project is a specially requested quilt from my seven-year-old--all sports.
Gorgeous quilt! I need to see this in person because I bet that silk is too die for! Your EBP is great too (doesn't that sound like a medical test??!!) My favorite genre or look for quilts is Moda LOL!
You know when YOU taught me lo those many (more than 26) years ago I liked traditional. When I joined Sisters a few years ago I still liked traditional but exposure to all those fantastic quilts made by my Sisters and fellow Thimbles....I now love batiks too. And, remember the red and cheddar quilts.....how about red and cheetos for a name. I have collected up all the cheeto fabric and reds. Just need more time to get it done. I can't wait to get my own copy of THE BOOK. I've seen yours and I love it but I need my own copy. And of course if the RNG (random number generator) picks me I will be thrilled to pieces to win this most lovely give away on Martingale Monday #3.......
Dupioni is one of my favorite words too!..I am really lovin' this trend of updating an older pattern into something a little edgy!...Embroidery is also a fav to include in my quilt (like red work or a giant daisy)!...
Hmmm, I don't really have a specific style either...it keeps changing and I love making all kinds of different quilts, though they are mainly pieced with very little applique. I like bright colors, subdued colors, batiks, repros, and yes, I have even used dupioni in quilts and LOVE it! Talk about luscious!
Your quilts are gorgeous also! Thanks for another chance to win so many wonderful goodies!

I lover to make all kind of quilts, red work, applique, patch work. I'll try anything and love to take classes to learn a new technique. I've thought about silk but haven't dabbled on that yet.
Love the quilts you share! I have only been quilting for a couple of years and I'm working my way through a variety of styles. I guess I'm UFQ- Unfinished Quilter.:)
My newest favorite style category is modern. After making traditional quilts for my first decade of quilting, I am finding modern quilts to be very forgiving and creatively stimulating. I admire traditional quilters very much, but right now, for me, modern is a better fit.
I still have a lot to learn about color, and I think I could learn a lot from your book. Congratulations on a real beauty.

I don't know what kind of genre this is, but I love quilts that have about 50% applique (which I TOTALLY DO BY MACHINE!!!!!) and 50% pieced blocks and all combined together with either Irish chain or some other kind of cool sashing trick. You know what I mean ..... NOT JUST PLAIN. LOL. And of course all covered with lovely crumbs from the chili cheese fritos I keep in my sewing room hidden by the filing cabinet because they're MINE, ALL MINE! hehehe
I've always been a scrappy quilt gal. I like quilts that are complex and take some time to put together. I'm not a fan of quilts that have huge blocks that can be pieced in an hour.
I love to make little quilts using the civil war reproduction fabrics and also hand piecing them and hand quilting them.
I love hand piecing and hand quilting miniature quilts using civil war reproduction fabrics.
I've probably made every kind of quilt you can think of, but mostly traditionally-pieced block ones. Have done a lot (like log cabin blocks) in blues and browns. Would love to win a copy of your book:)
I'm not generally a scrappy person, but give me a jelly roll with very pale, neutral colours and I'm off to EQ7 to draw something up. Generally though I go for a very limited palette and traditional blocks.
I love making quilts in muted pastels or Civil War repro fabrics.
I would love to own both of those books. I especially love the quilt on the cover of your book. I can already see it in shades of blue.
Deb S.
By now you probably have so many comments you cant read them all, however, your quilt book looks so wonderful! I love the elegant rool with the lovely fabric. In quilting, I love charm quilts and I love a white or cream background with the design done in prints. I love scrap quilts done this way. Applique always wins over in my heart! blessings, and best wishes in your wonderful work. Kathleen
I just wanted to say~ I love that quilt Pat! I'm a scrappy quilter, but I think I am going to have to start saving neutrals!
Thanks for all of this wonderful eye candy! mmmmm hmmmm and no calories!
