Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath. -Michael Caine
Ok, I think I need to hit the reset button on this day. After internet problems, and hours of phone conversation (with people who are difficult to understand)..the internet has been restored and life is back to normal crazy. We leave for Houston on Thursday morning very early or prior to the butt crack of dawn as I might have been heard saying. Yes friends I will be burning rubber like Sherman through Atlanta flying through the middle of town........ Houston bound! So, this is the last MARTINGALE MONDAY...This has been so much fun chatting with you about my book and showing you some of the projects. The book is out and in quilt stores! Finally! I'm so happy about the responses I have gotten from people both locally and through emails. Thank you all for your support. I hope you will enjoy working with Neutrals or just using some of the patterns to put your own twist on things. Don't forget to send me photos. I love to share those on my blog.
Here is my plan for the last WINNER!!!! I will choose one person to win the following.
Well of course...the star of the show!
Pat's Pasta roll. In neutrals of course!
A spool of Aurifil Thread...yummy!
A little sumthin to snack on!
And a surprise from International Quilt Market. I don't even know what it will be but I will be finding something very special for the big WINNER.
I will announce the winner on Thursday morning just prior to leaving for Houston. You have until Midnight EST on Wednesday to put a comment on my blog and tell me what I MUST NOT forget to pack to take to International Quilt Market... Be creative with your responses! PAHHLEEEZEE.

Mosquito repellant!
Oh WOW you are including cheetos!!!! What a win!! And of course your cannot forget to pack your camera (and please use it :-) and for a creative pack, I know you are not old enough for Depends, but maybe something of a smaller nature, you know, from all the laughing and carrying on and Star gazing that goes on at Market ;-D
Comfy shoes and clothes! I just got back from retreat this wkd. and so glad I brought comfy clothes and forgo the whole fashion thing. lol
Wear a NEUTRAL pair of kakhi's and a white shirt with a pretty scarf and the most comfy shoes you have. Everyone will be looking at your scarf or whatever accessory you choose. :)
HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!
I say don't forget a toothbrush because it is always horrible to realize you don't have one when you most need it! Thanks for the chance to win and have fun!
Don't forget to bring little snacks to eat on the run. My favorite is Organic Zbars by Clif Bars. They are at Costco and in the Health food section of your grocery store. The best flavors are Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Brownie and Honey Graham. While we are on the chocolate theme, little individually wrapped candy bars are good for those times you will forget to eat and you need to keep your energy up for all the shopping and visiting! Have fun.
Please do not forget to pack your camera. I live vicariously thru pictures from all the bloggers that do get to go to these fun events.. and I'm thirsting for the pictures already!! I'm hoping you have time to take lots of pictures of all the booths and goodies that I'm not able to get there to see.. (insert big poo poo lip). Have fun!!
Don't forget your 'list'--of booths to visit, things to buy and things to photo. Your giveaway is even more fabulous with the Cheetos. thanks!
Seriously, comfortable shoes or to put it another way - seriously comfortable shoes!
PS I've never eaten Cheetos - are they good? I suppose they must be!
I think you'll need your roller skates at quilt market! Thanks for the great giveaway! :0)
Ok, let's see, MUST HAVES at market... Oral B brush up things... (those one time use minty tooth wiper things) To freshen up after lunch... Don't want cheeto cheese staining your pearly whites! And a nice pigma pen to sign all those books you are going to sell. After all, you are a celebrity author now... Lots of photos and autographs for adoring fans. Have a great time.
Don't forget to pack your camera to take pictures of all the fun you are going to have at market.
Don't pack anything~ just borrow from everyone else! :-) Well, borrowing underwear might not work, so as gramma always said, be sure you have new undies! ;-) Have a great time!
COMFY CLOTHING+CAMERA!
THANKS SO FOR SHARING+HAVE A GREAT TIME!
Don't forget your small project(s) to work on in spare time. Oh wait, this is the IQF, you won't have any spare time! Ha! Hm... I'd say don't forget the ATM credit/debit card(s). :-)
Woo Hoo....Cheetos too! I've got my pickers ready!!!
You just might get thirsty but who has time to stop...get you one of those camel backpacks to wear on your back with whatever liquid refreshment satisfies...no worries about restroom breaks because I see that Happy Cottage Quilter suggest Depends! Now that is just too funny!!! We all know how those ladies restroom lines are...feel free to use the gents if you must....then get back out there and snap some photos for us will ya? Speaking of....batteries for the camera!!!!!
Tylenol PM, because I know when you get there you will be over tired and too wound up to sleep.
Have a great trip.
Most of the basics are covered by prior comments. Since you are driving, pack one of those easy to carry stools to sit upon when you are standing in line. Take several good pens that hang around your neck and a small spiral note pad that will slip in a pocket, something to keep business cards in that you may pick up ... and for business cards to hand out, maybe a "fanny pack" so are hands free, and of course, extra already charged camera and cell phone batteries and memory sticks. Take some cold weather clothes just in case. And, most of all, your great sense of humor!
Don't forget to take a picture of "Sir Quilt Dude" (should he not be going with you)... Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Thanks for the great give-aways!!
Don't forget to pack your skibbies!
Bandaids! And your credit card, of course. And your cell phone charger. Hopefully you won't need the bandaids, BUT YOU'RE GONNA NEED THE VISA! ;)
Quite a few people sais your camera, that's an important thing but what's more important is your camera & phone chargers
1. comfy supportive shoes
2. a bottle of wine and two wine glasses :) Maybe more than one :)
3. something you love to unwind with at the end of the night
4. POWER CORD for your machine. I went a number of years ago, and we were going to sew a project, I left my power cord in Iowa.
5. a happy heart ...
Blessings for a fabulous time, lots of sales, and oodles of and oodles of laughs!
In the olden days I would have said to pack lots of film...but today it's memory cards and batteries! Have a blast!
You MUST take some of those running shoes that have the giants springs on the bottom...that way you can hop right over the crowds at Market! And they would be great for the Samples Spree...you would be way ahead of the pack...!
Take care and thanks for the chance to win all this wonderful loot!
Paulette
Gosh, all the good ideas were already listed. How about taking -space-? You'll need space to bring some goodies home. Have fun!
Include me in the giveaway - I have been drooling over this book. I so want to win, please.
Since I won last week(yea me!!)...no need to enter me but just wanted to stop in and say, have a fun safe trip!
Many good suggestions have already been made. You also will need energy, stamina and patience. Keep your great sense of humor even when something (inevitably) goes wrong. Enjoy! Enjoy!
Thank you for the chance to win an awesome group of prizes, especially your book.
Wow! I want to win SO badly but I just can't think of anything really witty and creative to say ..... *drumming fingers* ... *rolling eyes and looking heavenward for divine answers* .... *tapping foot*... Well darn, here goes nothin'. Don't forget to take your list of things you want to look at and the booths you want to be sure to see. Also, any fabric samples you might want to match up while you're there. And, of course, someone else's credit card - you don't want to have to pay for all those goodies yourself do you?!? Have fun!!!!
I think you need to pack a goody bag, filled with Cheetos, chocolate and other good things to eat. Add some tea bags, if you like hot tea, for nighttime relaxing. Thanks for the chance to win this great giveaway. Have fun and please do take slot of pictures.
Definitely a Halloween costume- maybe something in NEUTRAL!!!! And one of those enormous school packs of Cheetos from Costco! Have a wonderful and successful market! Thanks for the chance to win! I shall remain off the Atlanta highways until noonish on Thursday!! You ladies try and be good....OK?
Don't forget a couple rolls of mints! My mouth always gets so dry at shows, from talking with people and walking from booth to booth. Have a great time!
cheetos pickwe-although I am not sure Houston is ready for it! And of course-underware
A rollater (4 wheel walker w/a seat), that way you have a seat wherever you are. There is an attached basket to hold your purchases & you can whip up an expanding bag to attach, to hold the overflow. And it will blaze a trail thru the crowds for you:) Had to add something different. Oh & don't forget a sweater, the exhibits side gets soo cold. Come visit the Girl Scout Booth in the Service Project area if you get a chance.
Put a great big smile on you face and the rest of the trip will fall in line. Happy quilting!
Pack lots of empty room to bring things home! I saw the book at a brand new quilt shop on Sunday. There are some wonderful quilts in it! I have my favorite one picked out already!
Pack a photo of your loved ones and a bag of goodies(cheetos, chocolate, etc.) to keep your strength up. Also a camera to use frequently, love to see all the quilts and stuff!!
Pack your sense of humor and back it up with lots of chocolate. Wish I could go with you.
You should pack or rather take an unpacked suitcase (for those must haves and can't live withouts). Somebody else's credit card if you can get away with it. SOunds like the ideal shopping trip to me! Have a great time. I am so totally about the neutrals and the book. TOTALLY
$$$$$$
comfy shoes and clothes
yummy snacks
A really great camera to photograph all the amazing quilts you will see and remember them fondly with....comfortable shoes always help but above all your happy smile as you float thru the quilt show, markets, and all the venders. Someday I hope to attend it and see it my self have a fantastic time.
Chocolate for a late afternoon pick me up!
LOL... I am NOT entering, but don't forget your credit card, I am sure you will want to buy lots of goodies.
Oh - well given is your camera - but also the charger....so WE don't miss anything thru your cameras eye. SOmething else to bring....a spare suitcase - to pack all the take home goodies in (oh and of course warn your credit card compnay that NO your card isn't stolen - its' just found a happy place to shop!) And for me - just pick my name for the drawing and I'll be a happy camper too!!!! (it's a win-win)
I know you will have an amazing time. Pack a space saver bag and a pump you can reverse to suck the air out so you can fit more in your car!
Be sure to pack your deodorant! You'll be so focused on all of the fun things that you might forget that one boring essential.
Well i am a firm believer that you can never pack too many pairs of underwear..lol Just don't be like me and be in such a rush to get to the quilt show you leave the house in your slippers. I live 45mins away so when i got out of the car and realized what i did i just had to wear them in.. at least they were blue and looked like sandals!
Ear plugs for sleeping when your roommate snores (ask me how I know about that one!).
Most important though, is the comfy shoes and the camera, extra batteries, and an extra memory card or two. I know those from experience also!
Bari
Creative, eh? Tweezers, peanut butter and quarters....
Love the cheetos-- sorry I missed Thimbles-- in MS at a family reunion.
Pack a good bra (or two) and a comfy pair of shoes (or two). Being on your feet for so many hours, if you have an uncomfy pair of shoes or a saggy, sucky bra, you will feel more tired. (Ask me how I know!!!) :) Okay....this is my last chance to win, so I'll probably get cramps in my finger and toes, but I'm gonna cross them as soon as I send this and won't uncross them until the winner is announced!
Dont forget very comfortable slippers,so u can walk around in comfort.:) Maybe a big bag to put your purchases in also:)
Looks like the only thing not mentioned was the most very necessary -- a valet to carry you and your autograph signing arm from here to there.
pack an extra bag, cheetos, credit card, cell phone & charger, oh and me I can stow away in your extra bag! lol have a great time! and take lots of pictures.
Don't forget to pack your vitamin Q. Every quilter needs a lot of vitamin Q refill now and then, and even though you are heading for a quilt market that is filled with vitamin Q, it will keep your head clear so that you can absorbe everything in the market. Enjoy the quilt market.
Do not forget to bring xtra totes/suitcases to bring back all the goodies!
Some antiseptic throat sweets cos you'll have to be talking so much you might lose your voice. Some neutral coloured clothes and accessories to match your book cover oh and your Author's badge! (Oh yes, and a lot of Cheetos.
Make sure you remember to hitch the trailer to the car, you'll need somewhere to put all your purchases :o).
Hello from France
Don't forget your fantastic enthousiasm !!!!
Happy quilting
Well, I have to say that my first thought is undies! Geesh - does that sound like something your mother would say, or what?! So many things to remember - chocolate would be on my list.
Don't forget your camera and a comfy pair of shoes! Right, now off you go!!
I tried to post yesterday, but something went blooey! I hope you remembered your journal (in whatever form) to make notes and sketches of all the great ideas! Who's brain could remember them all!! Have a lovely time.
Don't forget your camera, toothbrush and pajamas! I just went on a retreat and forgot my toothbrush. I had to go find a store (because we were out in the woods) and buy one. Have a blast at Market!
Don't forget to pack all your money, all your credit cards, and comfortable shoes. That's my best advice. Thanks for one more chance to win.
Sounds like everyone else has you covered. Except you forgot...ME! I can carry all your purchases and elbow my way to the front of Market Spree and announce in a really loud voice: "OMG! It's another Quilt Celebrity!" whenever we see someone quilty famous. I swear I'll be good!
A bottle of Baileys for you coffee in the morning and a bottle of rum for that bedtime wind down....goes good with the cheezies too.
Be sure to take your most comfy shoes, a camera so you can share with all of us, and a big empty bag to carry home all your new treasures you are sure to find.
Have fun!
Don't forget to take an extra suitcase to bring back all your loot! In fact you might need one with wheels to haul around the show with you.
Dont forget your tickets and reservations numbers - and don't for get your cell phone charger.
Don't forget a nice tote, so that you can tuck all the goodies you buy and all the handouts you gather into it and keep movin' on, without pain from a skinny shoulder strap or the uncomfortableness of those flimsy plastic bags with the rigid plastic handles.
Have fun!
Don't forget some good shoes! You will be walking a ton!
Clean underwear! Because it is no fun having to find a Walmart to run and get JUST clean underwear!
I hope you have a great time in Houston and don't forget the snacks because they are too pricey in the vending machines! I have no imagination when it comes to packing. My husband travels often and it's always the same boring stuff...clothes, personal care, maybe a book on tape for the trip. Have fun and take lots of pictures!
your camera!
Not too creative, but plastic, glasses, comfy shoes and a camera. Have fun!
