Market 4

The door of opportunity won't open unless you do some pushing. -Anon
Prior to market I got an email from the Martingale angels telling me that there would be an author badge waiting for me in the Martingale booth. I was sooo looking forward to wearing it with pride during the 3 days of market. NO I was actually thrilled to be wearing it...NO I was proud and happy and tons of other emotions about wearing that badge. Mary Ellen and I went to get our badges, I was finally there and could not wait to stick it on my Show (name tag/vendor) badge. I slept with it on the first night in the hotel. It was so pretty.

The next morning...I got to the convention center..BADGE MISSING.  I looked everywhere...I was distraught to say the least. Suzanne and BJ practically strip searched me to find the dang badge. LOST..GONE BABY GONE.

So, I got up the courage to go whine to the gang in the Martingale Booth. I cried threw my body on the floor and flopped around like a fish out of water. They did not think they could get or make another one. Sad and dejected I went back to my booth set up and torchered Suz and BJ and whined some more. That little badge meant so much to me (ok, go ahead and start the lecture..if it meant so much to you Pat!!! how could you have lost it! Go ahead I know you are thinking it!)

The show began on Friday and I was in my booth all naked and badgeless. Then angels descended on my booth. Guess what they brought me. YUP they made me a new badge.
Those precious women had called the home office gotten them to sent an image of the cover of the book..made the badge and used packing tape to laminate it. I think they spent half the morning getting it and fixing it all up. They came over to my booth and gave it too me. There was dancing in the street! I believe I screamed and almost went into the ugly cry of happiness! (BJ and Suz were relieved that they didn't have to hear me sobbing in my pillow all night long and they could get some sleep. sheesh! )

The story continues. When we were packing the booth we were pulling up the floors.(I have those faux wood interlocking foam floors). What was under one of the squares???? YOU GUESSED IT.
Somebody must have stolen it and put it under the floors just to be mean. I could not have been so irresponsible with this precious badge to have dropped it in such a cavalier way! That is my story and I'm sticking to it!

The twinkle lights Are not on... But I love the look

My Martingale Angels... I have a story to tell about that badge I 'm wearing..later.

Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed. -Corita Kent
I'm a proud mom today. Today is the day I can show you this photo. Why in the world is this so important? Four quilts exactly alike..what is so special about that?

They are being given today to 4 very special college sorority sisters and friends of my youngest daughter Mary Beth. The quilts were made by Mary Beth! I have a quilting daughter. (be still my happy heart). She even chose one of my patterns, Tic Tacs to make for these special young women. She wanted every quilt to be alike so that they would all have something of everyone else in the group. She worked very hard in my studio while I was crazy busy sewing for market. She paid for the fabric and the quilting so she now has a very real perspective of the cost of quilting as well as the time it takes to make a quilt.  She fell in love with my feather weight and asked if it could one day be hers...sniff sniff I am so blessed and grateful everyday for this fabulous child . Let hope she doesn't get it too soon hahaha.

These are the friends for life group. I love them all and I especially love the one in the middle. Don't worry about the future of our world. This group has got it under control.
 JOY!

Market 1

It has begun...why is the first word we see when we get to the airport..

Well, after we recovered from the reality of getting on the air plane, strapping ourselves in an flying 10 zillion miles high..we comforted ourselves with a little retail therapy. YUP. You sure can do some fine shopping when you think you may never live to see tomorrow. Right there in the airport...THEY GET CHA!

We went yo the hotel, and then on to the Convention center...The Salt Palace, did some preliminary set up. We were ready for a nice dinner and chose a lovely Italian
Restaurant. Turns out we sat right next to our flight attendants. We enjoyed the evening and the company very much..and then there were the waitresses and adult beverages!

I know you are waiting for quilts... Be patient it is coming..

Today began with booth set up.. Here is the truth about setting up a booth for market. First you think, plan and worry about your booth. Market is ALL ABOUT THE SHOW... Then you Start the set up process. LADDERS! CURTAINS...lighting flooring, lions and tigers and bears...OH MY! I happen to be traveling I. The company of ANGELS..

These two made magic.. And the booth looks spectacular. Photos..tomorrow. We were done by noon!!!

We wanted to see Temple Square, Wow oh wow!!!!! We walked all over the square and gardens. Took a tour of the Beehive House which was the home of Brigham Young. Had a lovely lunch, and now we are back at the hotel for a little R &R..then dinner and back to the convention center..for Sample Spree at 8 pm.

What a perfect day to begin Spring Market. I'm thinking my new camera is working out just fine.

Sorry the post is so long..wish you were all here!

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
The bags are packed. The boxes shipped. The patterns written. The plane tickets ready. Best of all I figured out how to blog and post photos from my ipad. wheww. I'm going to make every effort to blog at market. This is no small task because we are on the go...or completely exhausted by the time we hit the hotel room. I pinky swear I will try hard to be a good blogger. Who knows what I will come up with. I figure you will read all about who saw who and who visited who. I'll try to put my own spin on market. I promise I will not hold back. I promise to show you things you might not see otherwise. I have challenged myself to bring you the inside edition of International Quilt Market. haha well this should be fun!

Here is a sneaky peaky of some project bags BJ and I designed. They are 16" x 16", there are 3 appliqued bags and 3 pieced bags in two different patterns. Here We Go! and Here We Go Again! There are lots of options for sewing these adorable bags.  Sew much fun to make and the perfect gift for our quilting buddies!
Here is the bad news. I bought the cutest new shoes to wear in Salt Lake. I thought I would wear them out on Saturday night. BIG MISTAKE. Blisters. Great!!! lets start traveling with sore heals and bandaids. I like to keep things as complicated and uncomfortable as possible.

I'm off to get a mani and pedi before I get on that plane. If I am going to have a body scan it is going to be with painted toes!

Like I said I'm going to give you the "  real"   side of getting to market.

Test

I am trying to blog from my iPad prior to leaving for market. I also want to learn how to attach photos so I'm testing my new app skilz.

Here is a test quilt photo. This was easier than I thought. I hope I'm com in through!

Lookie!

What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it; boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
- Johann von Goethe
I no longer have to keep secrets. This one is out...ready to be talked about in a real way. I haven't talked much in the last few months about the book I have been writing because the manuscript has been jumping around through the editing process (which has been very pleasant I might add).   The amazing people at Martingale & Co. will be releasing the book to shops in October. Sitting right here beside me are the final page proofs. I have finished reading them and will be mailing them  TODAY! The next time I see these pages they will be A BOOK all lovely and shiny. I'm so happy and pleased and proud and humbled and grateful  and every other emotion by the whole thing. I learned so much during this process. I worked my hiney off and learned a lot about myself at a deeply personal level and a lot about myself as a designer. I loved every minute of it, pressure and deadlines and all.

So here is the premise of the book. It is a compilation of Neutral Quilts and some smaller projects. I'm hoping that quilters will take a long look at the use of neutral fabrics as the stars of the show and not just backgrounds for other fabrics. All the beds in my home begin with a neutral quilt..I can change the quilts at the foot of the bed, shams and pillows with the seasons and the decor of the room. Neutrals are timeless! The quilts are lovely! So there it is in cliff notes form. MORE TO COME.

I know that the folks at Martingale will be having an Neutral project that I designed with a free download on their web site at some date in the future. whoop whooop! You will be the first to know about that as soon as I know. (I'm so sick of keeping secrets)

Here is the cover of the book. What do you think?   Does the idea of neutral projects intrigue you?  I sure hope so.(please feel free to answer these questions)
This just blows me away and the projects inside make me smile!

BTW I have been asked if I will do preorders on my web site for the book and the answer is yes. I'm planning to do a web site redo after market so I will include the book orders in that make over. (I need a make over as much as my web site sheesh!)
Ok back to earth Pat...MARKET LOOMS. We leave one week from Wednesday....That sounds better than 9 days..Oh my!
