I could not review the book without talking a little about Connie and Mary. These two ladies have been in business for 29 years. This alone is an accomplishment of epic proportion. They are without doubt...QUILT INDUSTRY TRAILBLAZERS! A few years ago I had the pleasure of hosting them for dinner in my home along with a group of friends who co hosted. We had a grand partay and I have special memories of that night and the retreat that followed. Whatta treat. I will blog about that tomorrow (with photos) and tell you about the memorable time we spent with Connie and Mary. What I want to say here is that the honor of reviewing their book is something I'm grateful and happy to do for these two gentle spirited, kind hearted women. So now I get to talk about " Back to Charm School"...my pleasure ladies!
Let's just talk about the title of the book and the theme " Back to Charm School." Each project has a GOLDEN RULE of manors and ettiquette to live by. I love it! Am I getting old (don't answer that question) or are we forgetting our manors more frequently? I love each little pearl of wisdom and laughed at most of them! Use a Napkin only for your Mouth! hahahaha Never Wear Gloves at the Table. These are great. I would like to add one. Turn Your Cell Phone Off in a Restaurant.. ok I digress I'll get off my soap box. I love the theme of the book sooo much. GENIUS LADIES.
Do I have to pick a favorite project from this book..reeeely...I'm mean seriously??? Ok so if I could only choose just one I suppose it would be Do No Put Your Elbows on the Table.
This book is perfect to pick up and make some small projects that are doable...They point out that you can do the machine quilting on your home machine (a prospect that terrifies me). This may be a super place to practice quilting on my machine instead of quilting with my credit card! I would be more inclined to do some hand quilting, again the projects are small and I can get er dun without too much stress!
We have come to love the beautiful photography in all the books that come from Martingale & Co. this book is no exception. There is a warm cozy feel to the projects within the pages of " Back To Charm School" which is no surprise because of the warm wonderful people who wrote the book and the company that styled it. It is kinda like putting on your comfy clothes and sitting by the fire and planning your next quilt project. Wrap yourself up in this book friends, and start sewing you won't regret it!
I have two books to give away. That means there will be two winners hahaha (I'm such a smarty pants). They are both signed by Connie and Mary. Just cuz I love ya I will throw in some pre cut 5" charm squares cut from my very own stash...and a copy of the Goat Gazette. I will tell you, next post, about the Goat Gazette which is the newspaper that Connie and Mary have been sending out for years. They were into social media before it was KOOL.

One of the first quilts I ever made was a pattern by Country Threads. It's hanging in my house right now. I'm currently working on a number of projects...I have a quilt top from a bee going...I need to put a binding on a queen size quilt...I also need to make two pillow shams for that same quilt...and I'm suffering from a lack of my sewing machine which has been gone since the beginning of the month...and the person still hasn't fixed it right. =)

Oh dang, I forgot to tell ya my quilt projects. I'm one of these multi-tasker quilters, usually 3 or 4 things going on all at once. Lately I'm working on a Schnibbles quilt called:ISTH. I'm also making a baby quilt with monkey fabs and polka dots. Making a new tote bag purse with black/white houndstooth fabric. Making a quilt top for my kitchen table with a Loft Creations pattern called String Beans. I have fabric cut out for 14 pincushions. Finally cut out my BOM kits, 7 of them, just need to sew them up. I have charms on my sewing table, scrappy, for a hour-glass quilt. I think that's all for now.

I am working on a thimble creek santa quilt, started a week before christmas. With a few small project in between. And a couple of stitchery projects while out and about.
You are too funny; I'm glad I found your blog. "I'll be back." I am from Portland (Oregon, not the other one). Right now I'm working on a BOM from my local quilt shop, an Asian Apple Core quilt, an Alex Anderson autumn quilt, a Crabapple Hill Halloween stitchery and the Farmer's Wife quilt. It's a wonder I have time to read blogs....
LOve your blog and insights. I too could get on a soapbox about cell phone etiquette it really irritates me how annoying some people are with their phone skills. Oh well, stepping off my box now too.
As for quilting projects, I just finished sewing 12 Wonky House Blocks for my first ever block swap. Tomorrow, I'll be making the required signature blocks to go along with them before we go out to met up with friends for Daytona 500 Celebrations. Jane

Right here in Snellville, Georgia (where everybody is somebody). I am finishing up a baby quilt---whip-stitching the binding. As soon as that one is finished, I plan to get back to the project I started long ago, Patchwork Party 2007 Spring Edition. I love the finishing kit from Fat Quarter Shop, but I can't seem to find the pattern for it. I think I have all the supplies I need to finish it, just need the directions. I have emailed the designer, so hopefully I will hear back from her.

Thanks for this opportunity to win a fun looking book. I'm always looking for fun little projects that would make good gifts. I live in Phoenix AZ but right now I am enjoying a nice time in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. This is a small fishing town on the SEa of Cortez (or the Gulf of California). Lovely place with super people. I am working on a scrappy blue double Irish Chain. This will be a gift form my friend Mary, who will be 80 in November.
